One of the biggest changes the development team says it made in NBA 2K17 compared to other versions in the series is the in-game sounds. Both of those players were born in those countries and had a career in those countries before moving to the NBA. In Spain, the cover athlete is Pau Gasol of the San Antonio Spurs. In Italy, the development team picked the cover athlete to be Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets.
This was reportedly done in order to appeal to a broader audience.
The development team also gave other players the cover in different countries. The developers say George was chosen to be the NBA 2K17 cover athlete because he is known as a rather devoted player of the NBA 2K series. The standard edition cover art for the game, featuring Paul George of the Indiana Pacers, was unveiled in June 2016. The Legend Edition of the title features Kobe Bryant as the cover athlete and comes with several different physical and digital bonuses, such as a poster and Virtual Currency which can be used to purchase different boosts in various modes. The game was revealed with a new trailer. Aside from the regular edition, a ‘Legend Edition’ of the game was made to be available for players to purchase. NBA 2K17 was officially announced on April 13, 2016.
